2nd Bethel Anniversary
February 1st has become a significant date for me because today marks my 2-year anniversary at Bethel. Today gives me an opportunity to reflect upon my experience in Houston. Simply, I continue to be thankful. God’s grace has been surprising and deep. Mason asked me yesterday why we go to church at Bethel and why I work here. I told him that we felt God calling us here, I noted our church’s commitment to the Bible, that we value what Dr. Boys is about and have now grown to love he and Christy, but ultimately I felt we could help. I continue to feel that I have something to add, which brings me great joy.
As I reflect upon the last two years, I am most thankful for the men I am around. I have never worked this closely with older men in there 50’s, 60’s, and even 70’s. I love these older guys. They have graciously accepted me, supported me, loved me, and even respected me. They have also raised all my standards of holiness and professionalism (in a good way). I am even thankful for the few times when they have called me out, because most of those instances have been very merciful and constructive.
I am also deeply blessed to have worked with guys who are my peers. I came to quickly love Seth, Erik, Ken, and Colin and my love and respect for these men has only grown stronger in two years. I finally finished Dr. Haykin’s profound sermon on friendship. I consider it one of the great joys of my life to be developing lasting friendships with these men in ministry. God has truly knit our hearts.
I love the men of Bethel.
